Mission Statement
Started in 2008 under the Mayor's Block Party Program as an afternoon of Free Jazz outside the New Art Center at Washington Park, the Newton Jazz and Wine Festival hopes to grow into a large scale event bringing together the finest Jazz and Wines that New England has to offer.
Projected to be a series of wine tasting and jazz concert events throughout the summer at various venues throughout Newton culminating in a weekend of outdoor Jazz free to the Public!
Over the course of the next 5 years, the Newton Jazz and Wine Festival will expand to locations throughout the city adding scholarship opportunities to it's cause... New England wineries will be invited to showcase their specialties along with some of the areas finest Jazz artist including Award-Winning Vocalist Patrice Williamson, The Rusty Scott Quartet, Fred Woodard, The Quartet of Happiness and many others... as the weekend event expands from one to two days, the performing roster will expand to include more local artists and the occasional big name headliner!
The official 2010 inaugural season will begin and end with a weekend of Jazz at The Jackson Homestead in association with Historic Newton. An accompanying evening admission wine tasting and jazz concert reception is in the works at a venue to be determined.
2011 will see the start of the of the monthly events.
